About Women in Medicine

       This website is based on the women in medicine club at Greenwich Academy. This club holds webinars for the members with doctors of many different specialties including dermatology, psychology, and orthopedics. They not only discuss their profession, but also include a Q&A for students to gain a better depth and understanding of that area of the medical field and more about becoming a med student. The purpose of this website is to share knowledge from professionals along their journeys through medical school and deciding their specialties, as well as the research they have done throughout their careers.

        In developing this website the goal is to format the information and insight obtained from these esteemed doctors to give back and spread this knowledge to society. In particular it targets young girls interested in exploring the different fields of medicine and research. The narrative and format of this website is introducing each of the speakers in different posts. It shares information about their journeys through the medical field more generally, as well as more specific information and research about their specialties. Inclusion of information/answers in responses to common questions these doctors have been asked, and videos of parts of interviews with these doctors is also apart of the Women in Medicine website.

        In today’s world it is very difficult to be a woman in a STEM position as it has been a male dominated field in the past, which makes it harder for women to become involved in this field. The goal of this website is to advance and share the perspectives and journeys of these women in medicine as they developed their careers while also fighting gender stereotypes and increased difficulty becoming a woman in medicine in a male dominated field. Establishing their careers against the stereotypes and difficulties caused by these stereotypes and “gender gap” in this historically male dominated STEM field, and sharing how they also advanced research and specialities that are not very well known is critical. Taking notice of the female doctors in the medical field amongst the men and the research they have done to advance medicine is also working to create more gender equality in this field. This website also shares the knowledge they have gained throughout their careers to motivate young women to pursue, and share with them, more knowledge about this field.
